As a tech-savvy, I am happy for the fact that India is rapidly growing as an IoT hub. The IoT units in India would probably see rapid growth in the coming years to reach approx. 2 billion units by the end of this year from the current base of 60 million.

This along with the rise of the modern Indian consumer and increasing smartphone and mobile Internet penetration is driving consumer IoT applications in the market. Security, as well as privacy concerns of consumers, though play a big role in deferring the adoption of IoT devices.

Various hardware vendors, software application vendors, network operators, and system integrators, all are major drivers of IoT in the market, and the interesting fact here is that around 60 to 65 percent of these stakeholders are startups.

Increasing IoT usage would also enable India along with various other developing nations, to overcome age-old challenges such as extreme climate calamities, civic inefficiencies, effective as well as sustainable farming value chain, healthcare, education to name a few.
